        Covid-19(Coronavirus disease) is a respiratory tract infection caused by a coronavirus closely related to SARS coronavirus. Generally, Covid-19 patients show hypoxemia associated with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Hypoxemia means lowering of oxygen level in the blood, hence we need advanced mechanisms to transfer oxygen from alveoli to blood. Many experimental & clinical evidence explains the significant role of Inhaled Nitric Oxide(NO) as a selective vasodilator. , which has shown to restore oxygenation by helping to normalize shunts and ventilation/perfusion mismatch. NO has ability to suppress the replication of coronavirus, only NO has this unique property than other vasodilator agents. Hence it helps to clinical management of COVID-19.

   

Researchers in many universities continuously working on the COVID-19 vaccine, a scientist at Uppsala University have discovered the more effective way of treating the COVID-19 virus. This way closely related SARS-CoV-2 virus which found in 2003. 


        Nitric acid is a substance containing antiviral property, it is produced by the body itself. According to the journal Redox Biology, “Nitric acid is the only compound that shows direct relation with SARS-CoV-2 ”said Ake Lundkvist, the researcher at Uppsala University, who leads this project. 


 

Nitric Acid is a naturally producing compound. Its main function acts as a hormone to control various organs. It regulates stress in blood vessels and regulates blood flow within the organs. In acute lung failure, to enhance the blood-oxygen saturation level Nitric oxide can be used as inhaled gas, in very less concentration.


        Nitric oxide (NO) is an important signaling molecule between cells which has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on some virus infections. In 2003 SARS(Severe acute respiratory syndrome) this NO therapy was given remarkable results over a patient because inflammation in the patient’s liver decreased., S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine significantly inhibited the replication cycle of SARS CoV in a concentration-dependent manner. 

Role of Nitric Oxide in our body.

  • Nitric Oxide (NO) causes smooth muscle Relaxation by generating cGMP intracellularly.  
    cGMP promotes deCGMP then promotes dephosphorylation Myosin ‘M’ light Chain kinase (MLCK) so that myosin fails to interact with actin ‘A’. (M-A interact causes contraction of Muscles.)
    It helps in building stamina for sportspersons, it also lowers the production of lactic acid.
    It prevents you from bacterial infections.
    It dilates the arteries and helps to regulate blood pressure.
